The Building Physics Research Group (BPRG™) at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Tokyo Universiyt of Science, welcomes motivated students who are interested in understanding and improving the bulit environment through scientific research.
Our research covers building environmental engineering, including heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, ventilation, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, energy efficiency, daylighting, and the application of numerical simulation, experimental measurement, and data-driven methods to architectural and environmental problems.
We welcome students who are curious, proactive, and willing to develop their own research ideas through discussion, critical thinking, and collaboration.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Applicants interested in joining BPRG™ are encouraged to have the following qualities:
1. Research motivation: A clear interest in building physics, architectural environmental engineering, or a related field, together with a willingness to formulate and pursue research questions.
2. Fundamental knowledge: A sound academic foundation in architecture, physics, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline.
3. Problem-solving skills: The ability to think logically, analyze scientific problems, and learn new methods independently.
4. Communication and collaboration: A willingness to participate actively in research discussions and collaborate with other group members. Japanese or English language proficiency appropriate to the research and academic environment is important.
5. Commitment to research: The motivation to conduct systematic research, evaluate results critically, and communicate findings clearly.
| ADMISSION FOR RESEARCH STUDENT |
It is strongly recommended to enroll as a “Undergraduate Research Student” or “Graduate Research Student” (Kenkyū-sei in Japanese) for one year before entering as a Master’s or Doctoral Student. Enrolment as a “Undergraduate Research Student” or “Graduate Research Student” is a way in which as a non-degree seeking student you can prepare to enroll into a degree-seeking postgraduate program; during this it is possible to join a laboratory and start work under an academic supervisor and begin your research before your enrollment in a regular degree-seeking program. You will also be able to use this time to prepare for the examination to enter a Master’s or Doctoral program, as well as to learn Japanese through the language courses offered by the university.

【1】UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENT
To enroll as a undergraduate research student at the Department of Engineering, basically you must have graduated, or you will be expected to graduate from a university by the time of enrollment. Then, you should submit an application to the Engineering Administration Division at the Department of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science, with a note describing your intent to work with Ph.D. Sihwan Lee.

(a) Foreign students with national fees.
(b) Foreign students who are recommended by an official international cooperation organization, or otherwise recognized as being in a similar position to the above (a).

【2】GRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENT
To enroll as a research student at the Graduate School of Engineering, basically you must have completed a master’s program, or you will be expected to complete a master’s program by the time of enrollment. If you would like to take the preliminary screening, make early contact with our research group first to get informal consent, and contact to the address below.
