李 時桓
Sihwan Lee / Director
I am Sihwan Lee, an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science, Japan. I received my Ph.D. in Architecture Engineering from University of Tokyo in 2011. My research focuses on energy, environmental, and sustainability issues within the built environment. Currently, my studies cover the following major areas: (1) Development of measuring equipment for environmental research, (2) CFD analysis for turbulent flow in rooms and around buildings, (3) Prediction methods using numerical simulation of heat and flow fields for living space, (4) Ventilation efficiency of indoor space, (5) Evaluation of thermal comfort using both measurement and numerical analysis.

I am Hong Hu, an Assistant Professor in the BPRG™ (Lee Laboratory in TUS). My research focuses on the implementation of natural ventilation in buildings and the control and utilization of building winds in urban spaces. 東京理科大学｜工学研究科｜建築学専攻｜博士課程の清輔隼仁（キヨスケ・ハヤト）です。サブコンの技術研究所に勤めている社会人になります。現場やオフィスなどの有人環境下における換気効率の汎用的な利用を目的として、換気効率測定手法の研究をしています。また、仕事・研究の両方で、CFDによる気流シミュレーションをよく使用しています。李先生には、私が修士課程のときから、研究のご助力を頂いていました。埼玉出身で、日本酒とウイスキーが好きです。金町（葛飾キャンパス最寄駅）には、埼玉県秩父市のウイスキーであるイチローズモルトをよく仕入れてくれる酒屋さんがあるので、とても重宝しています。よろしくお願いします。
My name is Hayato Kiyosuke, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. I am currently working at a MEP subcontractor’s technical research laboratory. I am researching ventilation efficiency measurement methods for general use in manned environments such as work sites and offices. I also frequently use CFD airflow simulations for both my work and research. Professor Lee has been assisting me with my research since I was in my master’s program. I am from Saitama and love sake and whiskey. There is a liquor store in Kanamachi (the station closest to the Katsushika Campus) that frequently stocks Ichiro’s Malt whiskey from Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, and I find it very useful. My name is Soyeon Kim, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. I focus on airtightness, ventilation, and heat loss in residential buildings as my main research keywords. I quantitatively evaluate the interactions among these factors using CFD analysis, aiming to optimize energy performance and indoor environmental quality. 東京理科大学｜工学研究科｜建築学専攻｜大学院生の小林真奈（コバヤシ・マナ）です。私は建築設計において、感覚だけに頼らず、根拠をもって空間をつくることに魅力を感じています。光や風、熱環境といった要素を定量的に示しながら設計に落とし込むプロセスに面白さを感じ、このアプローチを深めたいと考えて李研究室に入りました。私は現在、建物ファサードに取り付ける柔軟な太陽光パネル一体型ルーバーの最適形状を研究しています。具体的には、室内の自然光利用の向上，太陽光発電量の最大化、そして歩行者空間の微気候改善（MRTやWBGT、風環境など）の三つを同時に満たすファサードデザインを目指しています。先生方は非常に研究熱心で、学生一人ひとりのテーマに対して丁寧に向き合い、親身に相談に乗ってくださいます。また、当研究室は自由テーマ制で、自分が本当に興味を持つ研究に主体的に取り組める点が魅力です。メンバーは扱う分野も多様で、互いに異なる視点から学び合える、刺激の多い環境です。こうした恵まれた環境で、自分の関心をさらに深めながら研究を続けていきたいと考えています。好きな食べ物はチーズで、空を見るのが好きです。よろしくお願いします！
I am Mana Kobayashi, and I am a graduate student in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. I’m drawn to architectural design that isn’t just based on intuition but is backed by solid evidence. I find it fascinating to use quantitative data—like light, wind, and thermal conditions—to guide the design process. That’s actually why I joined the Lee Laboratory (BPRG™); I wanted to really dive deeper into this approach. Currently, I’m researching the optimal shape for flexible solar panel-integrated louvers on building façades. My goal is to design a façade that achieves three things at once: improving indoor natural lighting, maximizing solar power generation, and enhancing the microclimate for pedestrians outside—specifically looking at metrics like MRT, WBGT, and wind flow. The professors here are incredibly passionate about research. They take the time to really understand each student’s topic and give very supportive advice. Another great thing is that we have the freedom to choose our own research themes, so we can pursue what truly interests us. The other lab members work on a wide variety of topics, which creates a stimulating environment where we learn from each other’s diverse perspectives. I really appreciate this supportive atmosphere and look forward to further deepening my research here. I like cheese and enjoy looking at the sky. Nice to meet you!

My name is Lingxi Wu, a graduate student in Prof. Lee’s laboratory. I am an international student from China. My research focuses on the thermal comfort of semi-outdoor spaces and courtyards in small-scale commercial buildings. My name is Mio Nagano, and I am an undergraduate student in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. Driven by a keen interest in environmental issues and a desire to contribute to energy-efficient design for large-scale facilities, I joined the Lee Laboratory. My research focus is on developing design approaches for commercial spaces that provide both abundance and comfort to a wide range of people. I am particularly interested in design methodologies that simultaneously reduce environmental impact and enhance the thermal and visual comfort of users. Taking outdoor thermal environments and the utilization of renewable energy into account, I aim to engage in integrated research on passive design—leveraging natural elements such as sunlight, greenery, and wind—and building service systems. In my free time, I enjoy dancing. I also love dogs and Disney. It is a pleasure to be part of this laboratory.

My name is Kaname Mizuta, an undergraduate research student in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. I have a strong interest in lighting environments and aim to deepen my understanding of environmental psychology—specifically, how lighting influences human perception and behavior. My goal is to create more comfortable and attractive spaces, from architectural designs to the various environments people encounter in their daily lives, through the strategic use of light. My name is Koto Tsubaki, and I am an undergraduate student at the Lee Laboratory. I joined this lab because of my strong interest in technical fields related to HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), thermal environments, and energy conservation. My goal is to explore methods that balance energy efficiency with occupant comfort, creating spaces that eliminate discomfort and contribute to the daily well-being of people. Through my research, I hope to acquire specialized knowledge in creating comfortable indoor environments and develop the skills to apply that expertise to improve people’s everyday lives. In my free time, I enjoy fishing, attending live comedy shows, and listening to the radio. I am excited to contribute to the laboratory’s research.

My name is Hiroki Kobayashi, and I am an undergraduate research student in the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo University of Science. I am interested in the relationship between architecture and environmental engineering, especially the thermal environment and airflow in sauna spaces.
